Kaffee ist Euch heilig? Mir auch! 🙂 Und in Köln habe ich nun tatsächlich den Ort gefunden, an welchem unserem Lieblingsgetränk der gebührende Respekt entgegen gebracht wird: das Café Hommage im Friesenviertel! Wer behauptet hat, eine Hommage müsste immer einem Menschen gewidmet werden, liegt falsch. Warum nicht auch mal unser Lieblingsgetränk ehren, das uns schon durch so viele schöne und schwere Zeiten begleitet hat?

Das originelle Einrichtungskonzept vereint sakrale Elemente, wie eine ausrangierte Kirchenbank, die alten Holzdielen einer Kirche an der Wand sowie ein Altarähnliches Podest für die Kaffeemaschine, mit modernen Einflüssen aus der Kaffeewelt. Viel Holz, alte Kaffeebohnen-Säcke und stets frische Blumen vom Großmarkt schaffen ein unverwechselbar gemütliches Ambiente.

Leise und ohne großes Marketing hat sich dieser Laden ganz von selbst zum beliebten Kaffee-Insider-Hotspot entwickelt. Das Kernprodukt Kaffee aus zweierlei Röstungen, wird im kleinen Weckglas serviert. Man kann den Geschmack quasi sehen! 🙂 Für die Hungrigen unter Euch gibt es süße und herzhafte Crêpes sowie leckere Stullen (zB. mit Avocado oder Ziegenkäse) und immer frischen Kuchen. Alles selbstgemacht!

Besonders charmant finde ich, dass man von Maßnahmen wie der gelebten „Zero-Waste-Policy“ erst auf Nachfrage erfährt. Für die Betreiber des Hommage scheinen solche Aspekte selbstverständlich und nichts, womit man Werbung machen sollte. Die Milch bringt der Milchmann, das Mehl kommt direkt aus der Mühle und eingekauft wird zwei Mal die Woche mit Mehrwegboxen auf dem Großmarkt. Ein Konzept, welches als Vorbild für viele andere Gastronomen dienen sollte!

Die Hommage Besitzer sind happy mit der Entwicklung des Hommage. Ein langsameres aber gesundes Wachstum ist ihnen wichtiger, als viel Werbung mit leeren Versprechungen. Qualität statt Quantität lautet die Devise und diese geht auf. Die Liebe zum Detail und das freundliche Personal zahlen sich aus: geöffnet an 7 Tagen die Woche, ist das Hommage stets gut besucht.

Whoever has claimed that a tribute must always be dedicated to a person is wrong. Why not honor our favorite drink, which has accompanied us through so many good and bad times?

At Hommage, everything is about coffee!

The sympathetic couple behind the Hommage – deliberately stay in the background and let quality and taste speak for themselves. The two former students brought together gastronomic passion, coffee- and crêpe-know-how and created a unique coffee-oasis in the city center of Cologne.
The extraordinary furnishing concept combines sacred elements such as a discarded church bench, the old wooden parapets of a church on the wall, and an altar-like pedestal for the coffee machine with modern influences from the coffee world. A lot of wood, old coffeebean-bags and fresh flowers from the market create a distinctively cozy atmosphere. Especially the view to the ceiling is worth it! 😉

Quietly and without great marketing, this store has developed into a popular coffee-insider-hotspot. The core product coffee from two different roasts, is served in small glass jars. You can literally see the taste! J For the hungry ones there are sweet and salty crêpes, as well as delicious sandwiches (eg. with avocado or goat’s cheese) and always fresh cakes.

All food is self-made!

I think it’s pretty charming that things as the „zero-waste policy“ you only get to know, when you ask for information. For the owner of Hommage, such aspects seem just self-evident and nothing to advertise. The milk brings the milkman, the flour comes directly from the mill and groceries are bought twice a week, with reusable boxes at the wholesale market. A concept that should serve as a model for many other cafés!
The Hommage owners are happy with this development and find a slower but healthy growth more important than much advertising with empty promises. Quality instead of quantity is the motto and it works. The love to the detail and the friendly staff are paying off: open 7 days a week, the café is always busy.
